Located in Penafiel, Portugal, Home of Four Homes was envisioned by PROD for a modest family. Each of the 4 persons living right here is represented by an person volume. According to the architects, “three of the volumes are orthogonally organized about a core, while a fourth rotates to match the path of an existing neighboring creating. The modest dimensions of the current building determined the scale of the home while the vernacular identity influenced its layout.” The spaces between buildings are each covered by a flat transparent roof, which floods the dwellings in all-natural light.
The units are comprised of 3 levels: “On the basement there is a garage, wine storage and laundry space. On the major floor the bedrooms are positioned on the east side, although the kitchen, dining room and living area are placed on the west, close to a terrace with privileged view to a valey. Over the living area there is a mezzanine with a tiny office.” The materials employed for the style (zinc, regional granite and patinated pine boards) supply a texture diversity which tends to make the project stand out.
