Claremont Property is a private home situated in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
The spacious property was completed in 2007 by Brininstool + Lynch.
Claremont Home by Brininstool + Lynch:
“Traditional materials of brick, concrete, limestone, steel, and zinc are employed to form a non-classic home on a standard lot on the north side of Chicago. The property additional resists city conventions by uniting the front yard with the back via visual transparency, exactly where sheets of glass far more than ten feet higher and fourteen feet wide terminate an open program. A 3-story volume of millwork separates the floors from the vertical circulation of the stairway and includes storage and gear, neatly separating functional efficiency from open space.
An island of stainless steel for kitchen use and dining is the only object constructed inside the open space of the initial floor. This region overlooks a courtyard, as well as the green roof of the garage.
The ground floor homes the guest area and family space and is also framed by a huge sheet of glass that brings the outside courtyard visually into the interior, flooding this location with ambient natural light. An outside stairway from the kitchen to the courtyard is wrapped with perforated zinc panels that shade southern light into the courtyard. Private rooms for the family of 4 are located on the second floor.
Of the home’s numerous green and sustainable functions, the thermal mass of the concrete on the reduce level gives all-natural cooling in warm weather and is distributed by operable windows in alignment with the stairs. The open risers of the stair permit for continuous air movement, and with the strategic placement of windows, the stairway acts as a all-natural turbine for moving cool air from the decrease level and displacing warm air on the upper levels. In cool weather, the open risers of the stair permit the warm air generated from the radiant floor system of the reduce level to circulate upwards by the strategic placement of return-air ducts.”
